The Diverse History of Metal Casting
If you’re an inventor who is looking for metal casting for the prototype for your next idea, you’re in luck. We’ve got seven different casting processes so we can manufacture a wide variety of parts. Metal casting technology has come a long way in the last two hundred years, but did you know that it’s been around for centuries?
A number of metal objects were made as early as 3000 BC. Most of the casts were used to produce weapons, but religious objects were made from melted copper as well.
In 800 BC, the Chinese began to work with cast iron, eventually moving on to sand molding for some items, and producing blades to work in conjunction with their plows.
1400s to 1600s
As early as 1455 AD, water pipes were built out of cast iron. By 1642, more complex molds were being created and metal casting was on the rise. At this time, a company in Massachusetts began producing cast iron pots.
A number of men involved in the metal casting industry signed their names to the Declaration of Independence in 1776. By 1896, the American Foundry Society had been formed, cementing metal casting as a prominent profession in the United States. The 1900s saw the industry continue to grow as molds and metals became more complex.
At Prototype Casting Inc., we’re proud to carry on the tradition. Regardless of whether you’re looking for engineering support, toolmaking, or part modification, we’ve got you covered. Contact us today through our website for a quote.
